This sweet and sour sauce is perfect to replace your takeout with something just as tasty but cheaper. It also helps that you know exactly what’s in it. And let’s be real, it tastes better as well.

Ingredients

  • Light soy sauce
  • White vinegar or White wine vinegar
  • Granulated sugar
  • Pineapple juice (optional)
  • Ketchup
  • Crushed garlic

Storing the Sweet and Sour Sauce

Store in an air-tight container or jar so it will last as long as possible. One batch will last up to 2 weeks in the fridge. I would not recommend freezing this sauce as it will affect the flavour once defrosted or reheated. Let the sauce cool fully before refrigerating.

Where to Use Sweet and Sour Sauce

Stir Fry

This sweet and sour sauce is perfect for any stir fry. Whether it’s noodles, vegetables or even meat. Swap out your favourite sauce with this recipe and enjoy.

Chicken (Fried wings or thighs)

You can make battered and fried chicken for a more “classic” sweet and sour chicken, or you can use this sauce topped with wings. My favourite way to use this sauce with minimal effort is by grabbing some pre-seasoned frozen wings and cooking it in the AirFryer. Once it’s done, I toss it in some of the sauce and serve it with some sides. It is that simple and saves me so much time in the middle of the week when I have no idea what to make.

As a dip

It is as simple as that. Replace your favourite dip with this whenever you feel like switching it up. Also, add some chilli flakes to give your sweet and sour sauce a kick. I would also recommend heating it a bit longer so it becomes thicker and will give you a more dip like texture.
